Pinot Noir

One of the world's most celebrated red varieties, prized for elegance, finesse and remarkable aromatic complexity

Red Elegant 2,000+ ha

Pinot Noir originates in Burgundy, France, and is one of the world's most admired red grape varieties. Its thin skins and delicate structure make it demanding in both the vineyard and the winery.

The wines are typically defined by cherry, raspberry and other red-fruit aromas, which can evolve with age towards earthy, mushroom and truffle notes, sometimes complemented by subtle spice and vanilla.

THE GRAPE

Pinot Noir in Romania

More than 2,000 hectares of Romanian vineyards are planted with Pinot Noir. The variety has found several distinct environments in Romania, ranging from the cooler conditions of Transylvania to warmer southern wine-growing areas.

In cooler vineyards, Pinot Noir can emphasise freshness, aromatic precision and fine structure. Red cherry, raspberry and floral notes are often at the forefront, supported by bright acidity and delicate tannins.

Further south, the variety is also cultivated in Dealu Mare and Dragasani, where warmer conditions can produce riper fruit, greater body and additional depth while retaining the grape's characteristic elegance.

Romanian Pinot Noir is produced in a broad spectrum of styles, from youthful, delicate and fruit-driven wines to more layered examples matured in oak. With age, the finest wines can develop increasingly complex earthy, mushroom, spice and forest-floor nuances.

The variety's sensitivity to site makes Pinot Noir particularly interesting in Romania, where differences in altitude, climate and soil can produce clearly contrasting interpretations of this internationally renowned grape.
