Cabernet Sauvignon is cultivated on more than 5,345 hectares in Romania and is one of the country's most important international red grape varieties. It has adapted successfully to several of Romania's warmer wine-growing regions.

Particularly important areas include Dealu Mare, Dragasani and Banat, including vineyards around Recas. These regions provide sufficient warmth and long growing seasons for the variety to achieve full flavour and tannin maturity.

Romanian Cabernet Sauvignon often combines ripe dark fruit with lively acidity and a distinctive spicy character. Depending on vineyard site and winemaking, styles range from approachable, fruit-driven wines to concentrated, full-bodied examples matured for extended periods in oak.

The continental climate, with hot summers and cold winters, can support excellent colour, flavour concentration and tannic structure. At its best, Romanian Cabernet Sauvignon produces structured and expressive wines with the depth and ageing potential expected from this internationally renowned variety.
